Beads on a string are probably the oldest form of jewellery in the
world. However, it was the birth of one small bead in 1976 that
gave rise to today’s beautiful collection of the Original
trollbeads.
Tell your own story – create your own jewellery.
The name of the trollbeads’ company is Lise Aagaard Copenhagen
and is based in one of the oldest parts of Copenhagen called Toldbodgade.
The trollbeads story begins back in the 1930s with Lise Aagaard’s
father, Svend Nielsen, then a goldsmith apprentice who was set the
task of making charms. His enthusiasm and love for his trade was
imparted to Lise’s brother Soren. It was he who created the
first silver orb with small faces sculptured in it and then when
he drilled a central hole and strung it on a chain the first trollbead
was born. Today a selection of individually chosen beads each celebrating
a specific personal experience creates a distinctive and unique
lifestory bracelet or necklace; so unique it can never be duplicated
by another.
Create your story over time – wish for trollbeads, it give
others the opportunity to be part of your life.
What is most distinctive about trollbeads, apart from the original
design, is the use and combination of fascinating materials. The
beads are made from the highest quality raw materials including
sterling silver, 18ct and 14ct gold, natural pearls, precious stones
and glass from around the world. A team of internationally renowned
jewellery designers create and have brought to life each of the
250 precious metal beads. The beads begin life as hard wax models
that are then cast and finished in a precious metal. The glass beads
are created with the skill and depth of understanding that can only
come from a craftsman’s hand. Each of the 130 glass bead is
cored with a solid ring of sterling silver that ensures the beads
run smoothly and evenly over the foxtail chains.
At present two new collections are launched each year, with the
addition of the odd extra surprise. “The beads in the collection
are not necessarily connected. This is because we have so many different
sculptors, to date nineteen, each expressing their own individual
interpretation of our world. Some beads are very figurative; others
tell a more subtle story. There is always something to tell your
own story, be it cheerful, heartfelt, humorous or a little of all,”
commented Lise Aagaard.
Combine gold, silver, glass and pearls to create an eclectic time-line
of memories and personal fables.
Trollbeads have won international artistic recognition at ‘Sculpture
Objects & Functional Art in Chicago and New York’.
All trollbeads purchased from recognised trollbeads retailers are
hallmarked in compliance with British Assay regulations. These can
be found on www.fabletrading.co.uk
the UK and Irelands sole distributor of trollbeads.
